We have spent this time planning and preparing for a safe return, but will need to delay the start of onsite programming with the hope to return the week of July 6. We are following guidelines and recommendations from the city and the CDC and if there are any further changes this tentative open date could change. If we are able to open safely in July it will be at a limited capacity to meet safety recommendations. There will also be additional safety protocols in place.
As a result of the changes and with safety in mind we will still be offering virtual classes. Several classes have already been moved online for the summer session and most will start as scheduled. Students who are already registered in those classes have been emailed directly, but I will also include a full list below.
June workshops (1 or 2 day classes) have been cancelled and students will receive a credit on their account. Students with credits on their account can transfer to another class this summer (or a later session) or receive a refund. Please email Janet Bell (firstname.lastname@example.org) to request a refund.
Registered students will receive an update with specific information regarding their class over the next few weeks. Since all classes are unique we will address all classes individually.
We were looking forward to welcoming campers back to our building next month, but due to the recent increase in COVID cases and hospitalizations in our area and out of abundance of caution for our campers, staff and instructors we are going to cancel onsite camps this summer. We will continue to program engaging, fun and creative camps that your campers can enjoy from home (or anywhere) virtually.
Virtual camps this summer include:
Journey to Japan Performing Arts Camp July 6-10
Fashionable Finland Visual Arts Camp July 13-17
Fashionable Finland Visual Arts Camp July 20-24
Trinidad & Tobago Performing Arts Camp July 27-31

Online Classes and Camps:
We will be using Zoom for our online classes and camps. For more information on how to use Zoom please click here.
DAC Watercolor Exhibit:
We are still planning the DAC instructor/student watercolor exhibit which was originally scheduled to install/open in March. We just are not certain exactly when that will be, in light of the rapidly changing Covid-19 situation. It is tentatively rescheduled to run from May 15 – July 3. We will know in a few weeks if a May opening is possible – there’s a good chance it will be pushed to later in the year.
We are happy to hold on to the work that was already dropped off at the Durham Arts Council until the exhibit is installed. If you are no longer interested in participating, you may pick up your work as soon as the DAC reopens to the public. If you were not able to drop off your work prior to the building closing, and would like to participate in the rescheduled exhibit, we will send out drop off dates as soon as we have an exhibit date confirmed.
If you have a credit on your account that you would like to use toward a class please email email@example.com to use the credit.
Please remember we are not currently working from the DAC building and while voicemail is still being checked periodically, email is the more efficient form of communication at this time.
We hope to see you all at the Durham Arts Council again soon and until then we look forward to bringing you as many arts experiences virtually as we can.
